‘Environmental impact and ongoing maintenance costs’ were major considerations during the replacement of windows for a supported living scheme designed for older people. The new low carbon recycled RECO22 window framing system from Profile 22 was used for the project. These highly advanced performance, thermally efficient windows feature frames made soley from recycled UPVC. RECO22 secured a dedicated A+ rating from the BRE for domestic applications.
The Yardley Great Trust specified installation of 128 recycled windows at its Foliot Fields site and housing manager Lynn Bailey affirmed a positive approach to sustainability. She also voiced a committment to ‘specification, wherever possible, of products that we feel fit with our own commitments to the environment.’
On completion of the project, residents reported feeling warmer and more secure, in addition to finding the windows easier to use with increased soundproofing.
